Edelstein’s approach to analyzing emotions is very clear, and easy to follow, and easy to do yourself. I have been able to apply his concepts to my own behavior, and to successfully defuse emotional upsetness on a regular/consistent basis. Three Minute Therapy is one of the most useful, pragmatic books I have ever read.

I received this book in the mail a few days ago and oh my god it is good; it is perhaps the best REBT or psychology book I’ve ever read, and I have gone through a spate of buying around 20 REBT books in the last year.

This is absolutely the most powerful and helpful book in helping the reader to identify and correct bad thought patterns that are emotionally and physically crippling. It’s very user friendly with straight forward, easy to understand and no nonsense advice.

I will continue to read this book and work on the basic fundamentals until the day I die!

I continue to find great comfort in this book. Just last night I started reading it again, after feeling anxious about a personal problem. The part about separating the Practical Problem from the Emotional Problem is great advice, all by itself.

This book teaches us to see the irrational demands we make on ourselves, other people, and the universe by which we’ve been making ourselves miserable all our lives, and to replace them with rational preferences. The basic method of breaking down self-therapy into three-minute sessions, and then tackling new tasks and behavioral changes in three-minute bouts, is enormously encouraging. The writing is lively and entertaining, and full of case studies to illustrate that none of us is alone in our depression, anxiety, or addiction. Three-Minute Therapy is a joy to read and to live by.

Having read many other books about CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and REBT I can say with authority that Dr. Edelstein/Dr. Steele’s book offers something new to those of us who haven’t quite “gotten it” until now.

Of course one has to be skeptical! Can I help myself with MY insurmountable problems in three-minute increments? Well, after only a few days with his book I am buoyed and optimistic, and with good reason! Prior to ordering this book I was well on my way to becoming a recluse! After reading the book and doing only 4 three-minute exercises I see my perceived “horrors” are being replaced with garden-variety frustrations and strong preferences. I am working through my aforementioned “insurmountable” problems and realizing they are not insurmountable at all! Unbelievable that I am getting this much ACTUAL help from a book! If all this wasn’t enough, I emailed Dr. Edelstein to thank him for writing his book. and he emailed me right back! I had included a bit of personal information about myself and he actually provided a few more specific helpful ideas for me personally! Talk about a guy who loves his work! Here is an author who is 110% committed to providing people with valuable tools for dismantling our self-defeating and seemingly destructive ways. If you are confused and don’t know what to do BUY THIS BOOK

I’ve read lots of books in many areas of psychology. . . from hypnosis to narrative to cognitive behavioral. . .and I think Edelstein hits it right on the nose. Cogent, concise writing and laser beam precision on how to solve the daily problems of living and thinking. The book is PRACTICAL with step-by-step processes that are easy to understand.

One of things that I like the most about this book is it’s simple approach to dealing with complex issueslike anxiety. . . . This book is an easy read and offers effective tools for anyone to deal with stressful and anxiety producing situations that occur in the course of everyday life. Before I read Three Minute Therapy , I felt lazy and dissatisfied too often. And I never realized how much I was limited by my “shoulds.” Now that I’ve employed Dr. Edelstein’s suggestions, I’m accomplishing more for myself and others, and enjoying it more. I’ve also learned to have the confidence necessary to attempt new endeavors. What a book!

Three Minute Therapy confirmed my belief that we are all responsible for how we choose to live our lives. It is not a “quick fix” book as the title may suggest, but entertainingly leads you through simple principles to understand and control our seemingly uncontrollable, roller coaster battles. After forty years, cognitive therapy, and specifically, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, are proving to be the most effective means to solve depression problems beyond par. Three Minute Therapy clearly teaches how to do it. . . . [Edelstein] shows three minute exercises that can be done by anyone, provided they are a person seeking the truth, with willingness to consistently perform the exercises on a daily basis. And they only take three minutes. The severest depression is lifted, the severest anxiety relieved, the most violent anger assuaged. As the years go by these methods will become recognized as the most efficient, effective and humane to employ in all people’s emotional problems. More power to Edelstein for leading those who suffer away from the doldrums of psycho-babble, into the realm of practical and joyful living. Get it. Do it. Your world will be a better place. As a psychiatric social worker doing therapy with clients from all walks of life I make it my business to find the best self-help literature available. Look no further. While many books can help you feel better, Dr Edelstein’s book will help you GET betteror at least give you the philosophical wisdom and psychotherapeutic tools to do it yourself. I loved it. In fact, I have often recommended the book to clients with a “If you don’t like it I’ll buy it back” guarantee. So far no one has returned TMT. It’s dynamite, really. Good luck and happy reading.

THREE MINUTE THERAPY is a wonderful book! It has enabled me to overcome my lifelong bouts of anxiety and depression. I’m so much more confident at work that sometimes I feel like an entirely different person than I was before discovering this book. It’s like I’ve emerged from the dark ages.
